((Long title FTW))
1) Stupid Parents
So last week the teachers at my school were very, very excited about hearing Obama's address to students, and quite frankly, so was I. Not because I am that politically accurate yet, but just because I think Obama can speak well to younger audiences and I actually wanted to hear what he had to say.
Well, as most of you have probably heard, there was a bit of a controversy surrounding Obama's speech in classrooms. A bunch of tight-lipped, over-zealous Republican parents raised the argument that Obama was going to "turn their children liberal" and talk about the health care issue. Another school had teachers in trouble because the discussion prompts they were given had a question along the lines of "what we can do to help the President make the country better".
Well, that indefinately postponed the address, and today, the day where it was aired, guess which school decided NOT to piss of the Republican parents and decided NOT to show the speech?
We couldn't even LISTEN to it.
My English and Latin teacher were both very frustrated, as am I. I am just....UGH. Very frustrated. Stupid school. Stupid Parents. Obama's not the wicked witch trying to swoop down and steal your kiddies and make them liberal munchkins. In fact, maybe they SHOULD have listened, seeing as all they do is repeat every condescending thing you shove down their throats since you won't allow them to decide their own political affiliation.
I know some Republican teens who do take their stances seriously, but half the people I know come up with such half-assed arguments that it's hilarious. In a sarcastic way.
2) Stupid Adults in General
Okay. I like my Gov't. teacher. He can be a pretty cool and funny guy. And in connection to my previous wank-rant, he was also angry that we were not allowed to hear Obama's speech. He feels very strongly about children who skate through high school, fail all their classes, and don't go on to college because they "just don't feel like it", and he said that our generation would have a huge problem on our hands if we didn't fix that soon.
But then, for some unfathomable reason, he says this:
"You know, and you may think I'm crazy, but I gotta say this. This is why I think we're gonna have a huge culling of the populations, like WWIII, where half the population will be wiped out, if not the world."
Okay. Okay. Just...what the hell. How do those two COMPLETELY unrelated things relate to each other? I mean, he completely jumped topics and started spewing this random stuff. Not to mention there are at least 3 kids in that class who act the way I described in #1. And knowing them, they'll believe him.
Just....what the hell.

My English teacher also used PeTa as an example for someone using an ethos. I find that incredibly ironic since "ethos" means "to be supported with credible facts", and half the stuff PeTa spews is just crap.
Mind you I am an animal welfare activist, not an animal rights activist.
Welfare = respect for all life, treating animals humanely, fights to end animal abuse and such, supporting zoos who fund endangered species breeding programs to save near-extinct species, loves her pets and encourages people to adopt shelter pets, hates poaching with a passion.
Rights = completely against human contact with animals, against zoos, against keeping pets because it "diminishes their life span", gos around in vans loaded with euthanasia equipment and kills millions of perfectly good stray pets and then splurges millions of government funds on a freezer to store the dead bodies.
*facepalm*

In other news, my story now has quite a handful of good reviews *feels loved*
And I have homework tonight that greatly diminished my chance to write and such. D8 *cries single tears*

I have officially found an anime that I abhor with a burning passion and wish to make dead for a long time. *world implodes*
Ok, in all honesty, I consider myself willing to give certain shows the benefit of the doubt and watch them before I make any calls about them. That's because I know other people like shows I may not like and I want to at least say I tried watching it before saying "I don't like it".
But honestly - why the heck is Higurashi such a popular anime?
Seriously. I watched it, and I got nightmares. What good could possibly come from a TV show where the main characters are barely even past the fourth grade and getting involved in crime and murder? As in THEY do the killing and the animators feel the perfectly unjustifiable need to animate their gory murderous rampages?
I hear people say it has such a fascinating psychological part to it, but all I can see for it is the horrible, horrible gore and character abuse.
I also have a bad connection to it because that stalker kid used to watch it, and he LOVED it. Of course he did.
